Charles Perrault, the creator of the world famous Cinderella, was born today, 12th January in 1628 in France. He was a French author and member of the Académie française. He laid the foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy tale.His famous tales include Le Petit Chaperon rouge (Little Red Riding Hood), Cendrillon (Cinderella), Le Chat Botté (Puss in Boots), La Belle au bois dormant (The Sleeping Beauty), and Barbe bleue (Bluebeard). Some of Perrault's versions of old stories may have influenced the German versions published by the Grimm Brothers 200 years later.
In 2002 France issued commemorative silver €1.50 and gold €20.00 coins of Cendrillon (Cinderella) Of Charles Perrault’s creation.
In 2012 also France issued commemorative coins (€10 & €50) with the portrait of Charles Perrault on the accompanied by a quotation from the work: "Some great the advantage of enjoying a rich heritage, industry and expertise are better than property acquired ' and the Le Chat Botté on the reverse.
Also there are various stamps of many countries which depict the characters of Charles Perrault’s creation.
